These abstract paintings come from a place of not knowing. I follow the work and the materials rather than a fixed plan - often to music. Most of these paintings have began as figurative or representational paintings that I’m ready to abandon and through a process of unravelling and reworking, shift into something else entirely. I paint in, paint out, and paint back in again, guided by intuition rather than intention. At times, abstraction becomes a form of escape, a self-soothing response to the intensity of making narrative or conceptual work.
