Synthetic Landscape

Working with discarded plastic, splash guards and industrial remnants collected from road side lay-bys and hedges in Somerset - I wonder if I should coin this Magpie-ing, I treat these materials as active participants rather than blank supports.  Responding to their existing shapes, weathered surfaces and histories, these works emerge through a raw conversation between paint and debris I collect, where expressive abstraction collides with the reality of a manufactured rural landscape.  I'm interested in the geometries of human intervention - for example the sharp divisions of the farmed fields in the farming community where I live,  channelled bodies of water and managed hedge lines. Pitting these structured terrains against the grit of consumer waste, these pieces might question where a painting ends and a contemporary, engineered landscape begins.
