Liminal Folk
Liminal Folk gathers a cast of threshold figures who drift between self and other, human and myth, present and past. Through handmade masks and rural settings, I step into these characters as a way of revealing and obscuring, using disguise not to conceal identity entirely but to loosen it. These figures draw from the language of the fairy tales and folklore I read as a child, where unease and quiet magic are embedded in the landscape itself.
Staged in my home, the fields surrounding it and in the woods on the edge of Exmoor National Park (and sometimes directed by weather), they hold a tension between playfulness and disquiet, offering moments of recognition alongside something more ambiguous. The characters exist in that in-between space where the familiar slips, and where the act of becoming is a way to disappear and re appear differently.
